Our adventure took place on the 6th April which was a non working holiday. We made a booking at First Waters which is actually the pioneer of Cagayan de oro’s water rafting adventure. Our church mate knows someone from the company and we were able to negotiate to give us a 10 plus 2 ‘promo’ which means, we get 2 people free because we are more than 10 in a group. If I’m not mistaken there are already 4 companies competing for this service but First Waters were the one kind enough to give us a special promo.
So, off we went to our meeting place, in front of McDonald’s Divisoria ( near the monument of J.R. Borja) at 8:00 am. Surprisingly, we were the first ones to arrive there and not so surprisingly, a few of our groupmates were very late..heheheh!! So, instead of leaving at 8:00am, we only left the meeting place at 8:45 am.
The ride to the 1st base ( i forgot the name of the place but it’s the same road going to Talakag, Bukidnon) took about 30 minutes with a few kilometers of dusty road.
Seeing the river was enough to make me excited and a bit nervous too. We first had a brief orientation, which made me more nervous because the river guide was already instructing us what to do in case our rubber boat capsize or if ever we fall out of the boat! Hahaha! With our paddles, helmets and life jackets on there was no turning back. So, boarded our yellow paddle boat and it was a relief to know that we had to river guides with us. The river guides first taught us how to paddle forward, backward and turn. The guide explained to us that there were 14 rapids all in all for the 2 hour rafting experience. And just a few meters after our practice, was our first rapid! Wheee! It was exhilarating to experience the first rapid and it made us want to go through more rapids.
And indeed every rapid is different, there were those that makes your heart stop a beat and there were also those that makes you laugh your heart out!
Our river trip actually lasted 3 hours but in between those hours were portions with still waters, breathtaking views and seeing the lives of the people living near the village.
it was such a beautiful experience. So, the next time you drop by Cagayan de Oro, don’t miss going for the water rafting adventure!
