Our family had a great trip to Bangkok earlier this month. We went there for a few days for my passport renewal. I actually booked our ticket like 10 months ago (!) because it was a promo fare from Airasia. We only spent a total of 2000 Baht for round trip ( Hatyai- Bangkok- Hatyai) tickets for 4! That’s equivalent for a round trip ticket by train for a single person! Yeah!

And since it was my first time to renew my passport in Bangkok, I gave a 2-3 day allowance for passport renewal. I never thought that the passport application only takes an 1 hour. So, all the rest of our days were spent in shopping malls, relaxing at the hotel and meeting friends like Raya and Cheerful! It was really a great break for us!

Many times when we go to a new place, I try to do a little bit of research of the place; it’s history, culture and tradition. Even though I’m not someone who’s so fond of history, but a little knowledge makes me appreciate the people and the place better. And if I were to choose two places to go to that’s rich in history and culture, I would have to pick Egypt and Israel. There so much of things to see and experience in these places. In Egypt, I would want to see the pyramids and their museums full of artifacts and treasures of the past. After doing some historical stuff, then we can maybe go on sharm el sheikh holidays . That will be a time to relax at the beach or maybe even go for scuba diving. In Israel, I would want to go to the famous sites that have been mentioned in the Bible and I also want to get an on hand experience of their tradition and festivals. Oh, traveling to both these countries would really be a dream come true for me. I could actually tick off 4 of my ‘bucket list’ at one go ; travel to Egypt, ride a camel, scuba dive and travel to Israel. Wouldn’t that be great?

We’ve searched for a decent budget hotel in Bangkok and we don’t regret finding Bally Studio Suites. As mentioned in one of my previous posts, we wanted a hotel in the Sukhumvit area and with a price range of 1,000-1,200 Baht per night. When I saw the photos of the hotel from the internet, I immediately liked it. The swimming pool was a plus point for me since we were bringing the kids with us. And lastly, aside from the room rates fitting our budget, the reviews from past guests were also quite good.

So, when we arrived Bangkok, we immediately went to the Embassy and from there took a taxi to Sukhumvit 20. I never expected the Soi to be very long and there at the end of the road ( a little towards the left) was the hotel. We almost thought we missed it. We were greeted by a quite jovial security guard ( I almost felt I was in the Philippines) and entered the sweet scented lobby. The place looked a bit smaller from what I expected but it was very neat and cozy. We were met with welcome drinks as the receptionist processed our reservation. We never expected the welcome drinks but we were glad that they served them because we were quite thirsty from our walk from the BTS station to the embassy.

After a few minutes we were then led to our room at the 4th floor. The hallway was quite cramp and small but I forgot all this when our room was shown. Our room was quite big with it’s own kitchen area – everything was there a sink, cupboards, fridge, water heater, microwave oven and a few dishes and utensils. I like how the room was maintained well and the design was quite good too. While I was inspecting our ‘mini kitchen’ my kids were already busy meddling with the tv channels. They were happy that it has cable tv and can therefore watch cartoons in English.

Anyways, all in all we had a pleasant stay at Bally’s. The staff were nice and friendly and so were the guests ( at that time of our stay). For a price of 1,135 Baht it’s really a great deal. Even if this price doesn’t have free breakfast, but with the water heater, fridge and microwave oven, we can whip up our own meals in no time.

If ever we’re going to Bangkok again for anything and we need to stay in a hotel, I will surely go back to Bally’s.

more photos to follow..

When we were in Bangkok, we went to Terminal 21. This is one of Bangkok’s newest mall. I like the concept of this mall since it’s like you are visiting different cities or countries in each floor. The topmost floor which is the cinema brings you to Hollywood in which you would feel like a star. The 5th floor which is the food court brings you to Pier 21 which feels a lot like San Francisco. If you go down a floor lower, you will see yourself being awed by the replica of San Francisco Bridge. The 3rd floor will let you experience being in Istanbul, Turkey. It’s amazing how the sight and sounds ( yes, you can hear Turkish music) can transport you to Istanbul. And as you go down a floor lower, you will see yourself in London! You won’t miss the big London bus and the British guard as you go down the escalator. The first floor brings you to Asia, as you find yourself in Tokyo, Japan. The mezzanine has a touch of Paris and the ground floor is my favorite because it brings you to Rome! Oh how love the fountain, the big sculptures and the fresco on the ceiling. And lastly, the basement level has a Carribean theme with it’s gigantic lighthouse and brightly colored interior.

It was fun to ‘travel the world’ at Terminal 21. As we descended to each floor, my kids would excitedly ask, “Where are we going next?” It’s really like we are traveling into different countries. If only travel and visiting different cities and countries in the world was this easy, I would choose to spend holidays gran canaria . I’ve just read about this beautiful island that is also called as a ‘Miniature Continent’ as one can also experience different climates and landscapes in a single island. Imagine leisurely walking on the long beaches with dunes of white sand in the morning sun, enjoying the view of the green ravines in the afternoon and looking at the picturesque villages at sunset. It would almost be like our experience at Terminal 21 in which you’re like transported to different places in such a short period of time. But wait, I know that nothing can compare to the real experience of ‘being there’. Oh, Gran Canaria when can I ever visit you?
